Kim Stockwood’s latest album Back To The Water (March 2011) realizes a dream she has long held – to pay tribute to her home province of Newfoundland. In its own right, the collection of songs featured on Back To The Water are one long love letter to Newfoundland & Labrador - achingly beautiful songs that honour the people, landscapes and traditions of Kim’s native Province. When Kim left her beloved native spot eighteen years ago she could not have known the paths she would travel or the heights she would scale. Kim is an accomplished artist on many fronts, from singer to songwriter to television host and radio personality. Her wealth of experience and her longing for home have laid the foundation for Back To The Water.
Recorded and produced entirely in Newfoundland, the record features some of the country’s finest musicians, including one very special guest – Kim’s father Leslie. The title track “Back To The Water” was co-written by close friend and fellow Newfoundlander Damhnait Doyle. In addition to “Back To The Water” which Kim and Damhnait finished writing on St. John’s famed Signal Hill, and two Ron Hynes’ classics, all of the songs on the record were carefully chosen from the rich song tradition of Newfoundland. With the charm and warmth she is known for, Kim is sure to delight fans of traditional Celtic and Folk music as well as capture the imagination of a new generation.
No matter where you call home – just one listen and you can’t help but be swept away on a “musical trip through the beating heart of the province”. A Television Special highlighting Kim’s Newfoundland homecoming and the inspiration behind the record debuts on CMT on March 12th . Come along with Kim and explore the past, present and future of the country we’re lucky to call home by celebrating the beauty, wonder and wisdom of Newfoundland & Labrador!
